Eric Roach Secures Major Endorsement
Republican congressional candidate Eric Roach is crowing about a big endorsement he received. Roach has earned the backing of former Congressman Ron Packard. Packard is a respected Republican. While a close supporter of Duke Cunningham’s, I suspect most Republicans still admire Packard greatly.
Read more on the endorsement, which will be mailed out to Republican voters (according to Roach) here.

This isn’t surprising, as they are Packard was doing behind the scenes things for Roach for a while. They are also both Mormons so there may be a connection there. I think the bigger endorsement is the one Bilbray is about to get from Jerry Sanders, according to the U-T.

It’s not that major of an endorsement. Everyone knows it’s because Packard and Roach share the same faith. It won’t have any affect of the base. Those who are Morman would have voted for Roach anyway with or without Packard’s endorsement. If it were so special then the other Packard in the 74th Assembly which overlaps the 50th, would be way ahead and he is instead way behind.

Cross Tabs:
I would be surprised if Sanders endorsed anyone else — Frankly, I’m surprised it took him this long to say anything about the race, especially with Uke (who is the next-most-popular moderate) polling so poorly.
Sanders would’ve never endorsed a Democrat, of course.
The UT already endorsed Bilbray (no surprise there either).
So my guess is that ll probably be enough to push Bilbray ahead of Roach (Sanders swings more weight than Packard).

Wow, NiK I actually agree with your analysis 100%! Looks like we don’t disagree on everything.

Nik/Cross Tabs: One caveat will be how much $$$ each has to get news of their endorsements out to voters. With Roach we know it’s no problem. We’ll find out soon whether that’s true for Bilbray as well.

Bilbray has no money. It’s shocking that he has raised so little.

Bilbray’s ties to Abramoff and the possibility of further indictments in that scandal are going to hurt him more than the lack of money in his campaign. I think the Packard endorsement of Roach will push him further ahead of Bilbray. People don’t want to take the chance of another indictment of our Congressman.

This was discussed on a past thread, but Bilbray’s recent endorsement from Jerry Sanders will help him far more than Packard’s endorsement helps his fellow Mormon Roach. It will come down to the $$ and if Roach’s name ID holds up, or ends up being soft on election day, as what happened with Steve Francis when he tried to jump in and purchase the mayoral race.

Cross Tabs: I’m amazed! I’ll have to print a screenshot and frame it.
