Vista Schools Closed in Response to Immigration Protests
All Vista schools are closed today in the wake of immigration protests.
These protests have generated an enormous amount of debate in the public square. The North County Times reports that things had cooled off as of Thursday, but the order to close the schools went forward. Meanwhile in Oceanside middle and high schools remain closed for a second day.
Read the story here.
These protests have left me with mixed feelings. On one hand there is an arrogance to those illegal aliens (I know that term offends some here, but it is not derisive but a technical term that is accurate) who have said "it’s our country not yours". I think that drives a great majority of Americans wild with resentment and anger. That would seem to embolden those who push for tougher immigration policies.
On the other hand the news reports out of Washington, D.C. suggest that the protests are motivating many lawmakers to advocate for greater compassion and foregiveness towards those here illegally.

I expect the response in DC amongst some to be more moderate. But locally, and among districts along the border where these protests are happening, I expect there will be a significant backlash against these protests and anyone who would support any kind of amnesty for people that are (fairly or unfairly) being seen as a group of Mexican flag waving anti-american nationalists.

Do you even live in San Diego? Seriously, we grew up with guys going back and forth the border, working on farms, as maids, construction, etc. Making illegal immigration a felony is madness. Notice that the guys from border states are the ones leading the fight for moderation: McCain, Kyl (Az), Bush, Feinstein, etc. And keep in mind that the Minutemen were kicked out of San Diego.
There are a lot more Hispanics in this district than you think, and a lot more whites who spent a lifetime hiring illegals for odd jobs.
