Problem with comments

For some reason there is a problem with comments being posted.  I am looking into this.  My apologies to everyone.  This is not the time in San Diego’s political scene that you want people to not be able to engage in discussions on what’s going on!

$350,000 Being Spent by GOP to Target Busby?

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 8:03 pm

Comments made by readers of this blog indicate that the Republican Party or perhaps more precisely the "NRCC" (National Republican Congressional Committee) have made purchases of airtime on San Diego television stations.

The reported sum being spent is somewhere in the neighborhood of $350,000.

This would certainly indicate that Republicans are scared that Democrat Francine Busby may yet have a shot to win this race outright on April 11th.

Stunning development!  And it adds even more intrigue to this race and also makes it an even more media saturated campaign.

Kaloogian Pushback on Endorsements

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 7:56 pm

Republican candidate Howard Kaloogian has reportedly sent out mailers that featured quotes and pictures of people Kaloogian is aligned with. He has received criticism from some, however, because not all of the people who appear in Kaloogian’s literature have specifically endorsed him for this congressional campaign.

Yesterday Kaloogian’s campaign responded with a news release pointing out the hypocrisy by those who have attacked him as he claims they’ve engaged in the same tactic.

To support his point Kaloogian mailed out pictures of the mailers by various candidates to prove his point.

An excerpt from his news release:

Eisenhower Endorses Roach

Schwarzenegger Backs Morrow

Reagan Dual Endorses Hauf/Uke

(SAN DIEGO) - After several polls showed Republican congressional candidate Howard Kaloogian surging into a statistical tie for the lead amongst Republicans, Kaloogian’s opponents have shown the utmost in hypocrisy in questioning the appearance of leading conservatives in his campaign literature. The only problem is that Kaloogian’s opponents have all done the same thing and are now violating their own standard by criticizing Kaloogian.

*In a mail piece discussing his proposal for transportation, Republican Eric Roach features a picture of Dwight D. Eisenhower and his support for transportation funding. Eisenhower is deceased and has not endorsed Roach despite Roach’s inclusion of Eisenhower’s picture in his campaign mailer.

*In a mail piece touting his support of “Jessica’s Law,” Republican Bill Morrow, lagging badly in all of the polls, includes a photograph of himself shaking hands with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger has not endorsed Morrow despite Morrow’s inclusion of the Schwarzenegger-Morrow picture in at least two of his campaign mailers.

*In separate mail pieces, Republican candidates Bill Hauf and Alan Uke both include photographs of Reagan. Reagan is deceased and has not endorsed Hauf or Uke despite their inclusion of Reagan’s picture in their campaign mailers. And, unlike Kaloogian, neither has established any public record of working with Reagan or on his behalf.

It’s official: Bilbray Backed by Saunders and Wilson

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 7:54 pm

As this blog previously reported, Republican candidate Brian Bilbray has received the endorsement of former Republican Governor Pete Wilson and current San Diego Mayor Jerry Saunders.

It’s now official and the Bilbray for Congress team has the news release up on their website.  You can read it here.

Absentee Votes Expected to be Crucial

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 7:43 pm

North County Times ran a story today by William Finn Bennett that dealt with the importance of absentee votes in this election.

The Busby and Bilbray campaigns said they solicited people to sign up to vote by absentee.  Kaloogian’s campaign said his team targeted absentee voters with specific mailings.

Roach Defends Lack of Political Involvement

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 7:40 pm

Eric Roach was on the Roger Hedgecock Show yesterday on KOGO 600.

He brought his wife with him, who still supports his campaign, although it is unclear if she will be sending out more letters for him to district voters.

Roach was cool, calm and collected.  He had a largely positive interview with Hedgecock.

One awkward area.  Hedgecock asked Roach if he had ever been involved in any political cause or movement or supported any candidate, made any contributions?  Roach said Yes, they were active with the Mormon Church.

Hedgecock responded that he meant political involvement or activity.  Roach said no he hadn’t.  One of the attacks being made against Roach by his fellow Republicans is that Roach has never contributed to any Republican candidate or cause, but now wishes to be the standard bearer for the GOP in this congressional campaign against Francine Busby.  Roach appears not to have denied this yesterday.
