Our amazing country

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 5:27 am

On the eve of a closely-watched race for Congress in the 50th district I wanted to make a final post on the horserace that has occured.

As I mentioned in my post on Dani Dodge’s story in the U-T, I consider this race to have been one of the more dignified high profile elections in recent memory.

The voters of San Diego County are very fortunate to have a choice from among the 18 candidates running.  No matter what your philosophical persuasion there is a candidate running who proudly represents your views.

If you believe that we need an experienced and seasoned political leader in this seat, then you have many well-qualified choices.

If you think that the recent "culture of corruption" requires an outsider to shake up the system then you have a choice of several candidates to chose from.

The so called "minor" candidates in this race have contributed greatly to thoughtful discussions on the issues at hand.

The leading candidates such as Busby, Bilbray, Kaloogian and Roach have generally treated each other with respect and dignity.

Consider how this process has worked in comparison to what happens with elections in other nations.  In Iraq the citizens are attempting to construct some form of representative government in spite of risk of death or injury.

In many Central American nations the citizens live in fear of their government and what might happen if they are discovered supporting the wrong candidate or party.

In this great nation of ours we may bicker and argue and apply derogatory labels to those with whom we disagree.  But our political leaders by and large follow the rules and laws that govern our nation and our electoral process.

These are some thoughts to think about as voters go to the polls on April 11th.  You might not like the results, but I think we can all respect that this process was fair and largely dignified.  That we can co-exist as Democrats, Republicans, Independents, Libertarians, Greens and others is something we can be very proud of.

Thanks to all the campaigns who visited this blog and made comments, sent me press releases and tips.  Now we can all enjoy sitting back and watching the final tally tomorrow night.

Let’s hope there are many more exciting races like this one that we can discuss and debate about here at the San Diego Politics blog.

New Datamar Poll - Only Busby and Kaloogian pick up ground

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 3:24 am

Datamar (www.datamar.net) has released their latest tracking poll.  Here are the numbers:

Busby 40.7  (up from 39.6)

Roach 16.1 (down from 17.5)

Bilbray 15.6 (down from 16.3)

Kaloogian 10.4 (up from 8.9)

Morrow 6.7 (down from 6.9)

Uke 4.7 (down from 4.9)

Datamar was in the field from April 7-9 to get these numbers.  Maybe Kaloogian’s church literature drop worked after all.   Can all of this be explained by the margin of statistical error or is it reflective of who is surging and who is going down?  We will all know soon enough…
