Child Porn & Pedophilia

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 6:54 pm

The race for the 50th congressional district has moved from talk of child pedophiles to child pornographers.

Democrat Francine Busby said she may sue to stop the broadcast of an ad by the National Republican Congressional Committee (in support of Republican candidate Brian Bilbray) which includes a quote from Busby that praised a man who had been charged with child pornography.

It also includes Busby’s comments to reporters in 2004 responding to the arrest of an elementary school teacher for investigation of trying to possess child pornography. The ad cites Busby’s comments to reporters that she was she was shocked by the arrest. She told the San Diego Union-Tribune that Dale Regazzi was a dedicated teacher who was "always willing to lend a hand."

Somehow the expression "always willing to lend a hand" isn’t the most politically astute response a person could make about an acquaintence who’s just been busted for kiddie porn.

  1. That’s true, but hardly the point. This is an outrageous smear and it appears totally unprovoked. Just run the Busby is a liberal ads already.

  2. What I love is that it is completely true. The way in which they are portraying her is not very nice, but they are only using her own words. She can’t really do anything about that. I just think the whole thing is funny… sad, but funny. Oh by the way, Busby is being rather hypocritical by complaining about the RNC (and Bilbray) running negative ads (as she did on April 25th Channel 10 news at 5 or 6pm) and then turning around and personally attacking Bilbray in her own ad. Bilbray has no ties to the negative Busby ad. He couldn’t even make them take it off the air if he wanted to (I am sure he doesn’t). So really, out of the two candidates, Busby is the only one running a negative campaign.

  3. Um. . .are you kidding me? Have you lost your mind? She reacted in a human way to shocking news — that one of the teachers in her district, a teacher she knew personally, was a sexual predator. Of course she reacted that way. Everyone would react that way. What’s disgusting about this is that the RNCC is taking a human reaction and twisting it into something evil. I can’t believe that you support this. Who are you? That’s completely despicable, and its politics at its worst. Everyone who had a hand in this ad should be ashamed of themselves.

To top it off, it was a completely uncalled for attack. She’s a Democrat running in a majority Republican District. Just call her a liberal who wants to raise taxes and be done with it. There is a difference between attacking someone’s positions and calling them an accessory to a pedophile. And yes, calling out Congress for corruption is perfectly valid considering Cunningham and Abramoff.

As for you “Smart Democrat”, if Chris Young exalts in this smear like you do, then she had no business anywhere in public office, much less Congress. If you provide any decent advice to your candidate (and I seriously doubt that), tell her to condemn this disgusting attack. Because if she, in any way, supports the RNCC, she will never be welcomed in any Democratic circle ever again.

  4. [my ad for Smart Democrat]

Smart Democrat even supports Republicans, saying

“What I love is…the RNC (and Bilbray).”

    That’s dangerous.

Smart Democrat: Poor Judgement, Poor Management. Conservative. Dangerous.

    [paid for by yeah right]

Well, it is “completely true”! I am “only using her own words”! Hey, I’m the first to concede it is COMPLETELY out of context and warped, but apparently Smart Democrat is not only ok with that, she “love”s it.

  5. Maybe we should add prostitutues at the Watergate hotel to the list? From the [Wall Street Journal http://online.wsj.com/public/article/SB114610728002837324-nRnF_ahxSnYdWg6foBQ3_mvCwZ4_20070427.html?mod=blogs]

  8. Hey Jim I never said I agree with the ad. I said “its sad.” But that does not change the fact that the ad is based on fact. I personally think that we need to all step away from personally attacking each other on non-political related issues. I know, you are gonna say, “well you attack Busby everytime you write.” I address the fact that she is completely unqualified for the job. As I have said before, when I have spoken with her personally, she seems like a nice (if rather robotic) woman.

But having said that, the attack ad against Busby is still based on fact. Nothing you can say will change that. So rather than complaining about how mean the Repubs are, she (and you) should maybe think about how you can finally show that she is a worthy candidate.

  9. “Smart Democrat”: So do you agree then that my “ad” against you is fair and truthful, as well?

    Comment by yeah right — April 28, 2006 @ 4:24 am

  10. Yeah Right, does your comment even warrant a reply? Sigh… What you attempted to do above is a complete and total misrepresentation of what I wrote. Luckily, anyone with a brain can reread what was origianally written and see how idiotic your “ad” really is. I could (hypothetically speaking) take you to court over the misquote and I would most likely win. What the RNC did (while dirty and mean) was DIRECTLY QUOTE Ms. Busby. Her lack of foresight in how she addressed the issue with the press is her own fault.

    Comment by Smart Democrat — April 28, 2006 @ 4:57 am

  11. They cut out the important parts of Busby’s quote, which resulted in a completely different meaning from what she said. That is exactly what I did to your quote in my ad. You actually wrote those words in your comment above. I just cut out the middle (important) part. The rest of the text is from the anti-Busby ad (with ‘republicans’ and ‘conservative’ switched out for child pornographer and ‘liberal’). The whole quote is:

“He is a teacher who put in a lot of extra time. He was always willing to lend a hand. I was shocked at the investigation.”

Of COURSE she was shocked, and of COURSE she previously didn’t suspect him. If she did suspect him, and didn’t do anything, now THAT would be story! duh!!

That is all what she was saying with the “extra time” etc–she is emphasizing the surprise of it all, not praising him. With the extra context, this is clear. Only without the context does it look like she is praising him. Just like in my little ad against you, by cutting out a couple sentences, I made it look like you said you like the RNC and Bilbray. Go look at your comment #3 above. That is where I took the quote from.

  12. PS: “What you attempted to do above is a complete and total misrepresentation of what I wrote. Luckily, anyone with a brain can reread what was origianally written and see how idiotic your “ad” really is.”

Exactly. You just proved my point!!

  13. “Smart Democrat,” are you kidding me? Look, I’m not a Busby supporter: I’m a Democrat. I don’t have a horse in this race, but I know fair. Even Bilbray isn’t so happy about this ad, and he has a lot more at stake than your horse.

Chris Young lost. Get over it. Let me say again, get over it. The sooner you do, the sooner you can actually be the smart Democrat you claim to be. If Chris Young supports this, she’s done. Not done for this race, done for politics in the Democratic Party. For Ever. Do you understand? She will never get ANY support.

Get over your bitterness. If not for your sake, for your candidate’s. This hit was uncalled for and ridiculous. Somewhere in your brain, you know this. Have Chris Young say so, attack the GOP for making the attack, and she’ll pick up some points.

    Comment by Jim — April 28, 2006 @ 5:31 am

  14. Really? No takers on discussing Wilkes and Wade exchanging prostitutes for legislative favors with Cunningham and other members of congress–at the Watergate hotel? It doesn’t get any juicier than that, people.

    Comment by yeah right — April 28, 2006 @ 6:58 am

  15. Jim, you never cease to amaze me with how quickly you become upset and attack. I think you need some anger management classes. I mearly respond to your post and all of a sudden I am evil incarnate. Can we just stick to the facts please? I really don’t care if you support Busby or not. I am happy that you are so concerned about the political process. However, it really is unnecessary for you to make personal attacks. Just like you, I am speaking for myself and from my own brain. So lets just agree (once again) to disagree and move on.

  16. I’d love to talk about the emerging sex trafficking prostitution ring that is rumored to ensnare no less than 6 sitting congressmen…

I was kind of hoping that Administrator would post something about it on the front page so we could have a comment thread dedicated to it.

I love that the limo service used is owned by a guy with a 60+ page rap sheet, and was awarded over $2 MILLION in contracts from the Department of Homeland Security.

    Your tax dollars at work.

    Thanks, Republicans!

    Comment by Nik — April 28, 2006 @ 11:47 pm

  17. There you go, Nik, spreading half-truths about the party of “family values,” for shame. The correct figure is $21 million in contracts. heh.

  18. Both Republicans and Democrats are guilty of taking quotes out of context and chopping them up to create a meaning altogether different from what was originally said.

Its just a part of the game. Quit bitching and get over it.

    Comment by GOP Guy — April 29, 2006 @ 5:41 pm

  19. That may be true GOP Guy, but this was WAY out of line. Its a hit that by every measure is too much. To claim that Busby SUPPORTS pedophilia is way beyond the pale. And that’s the rub: its not the technique, its the end result.

Moreover, its a hit that seems out of place. The rest of the ad was a good, clean hit. And Busby is a Democrat running in a Rep district. A district that voted for Cunningham time and time again, during his increasingly boorish behavior. So remind everyone she’s a liberal Dem. But the RNCC couldn’t leave well enough alone, and they made this ridiculous attack.
