National Progressives Plan to Fight for Busby

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 9:21 pm

I came across this testimonial of sorts on the website for Grassroots Campaigns which works to help promote progressive candidates and causes.

They talked about the coordination with Moveon.org to get Democrat voters to the polls on April 11th for Busby.  They pledge to do the same again "in the fall."

What’s most relevant is that the array of left-of-center groups that worked to boost Busby’s vote total on April 11th in the process identified her core base.  This is a luxury Brian Bilbray does not enjoy.

He had to fight for his 15% of the vote and now must unite the Republicans behind him and then figure out how to get indpendent and Democrat votes.

Jon Fleischman of the Flash Report doesn’t seem to be on board with this.  Fleischman today screams about the need for a conservative candidate to be on the ballot or else risk a win by Democrat Busby.

The Bilbray campaign looks to be in serious jeopardy.

  1. Is it just me, or is Busby not all that liberal? I mean, she’s more liberal than Republicans, but as far as Democrats go, if Mercury is Dennis Kucinich and Pluto is Zell Miller (stretching the definition of ‘Democrat’), Busby seems more like Saturn than Venus. (everybody remembers 3rd grade?: M V E M J S U N P)

I think the reason progressives are supporting her has more to do with this being a hot opportunity for a pickup, than it does with her being the ultimate embodiment of their ideals. Kinda like Republicans with Arnold, although maybe not quite as bad. You know, you’d rather take the win someone who is more moderate than your 100% dream candidate, than lose.

  2. The fact that Busby was out participating in Anti-war rallies shows that she is way too liberal for the 50th district. Not to mention, she is backed by most of the Gay and Lesbian Rights groups in the country. The conservative, Christian residents of the 50th are not going to be pleased that she is taking money from groups that THEY see as immoral.

Wow, I hope that’s true! But I haven’t heard anything about that. Anyway, Smart Democrat, you do realize that even the troops themselves favor withdrawing by the end of the year or earlier by a 2-to-1 margin, right? So, I guess now you’ll say that the troops don’t support themselves or whatever. Nice try.

  4. Source: Zogby

    — 72% of troops polled think the U.S. should pull out of Iraq before year’s end (broken down as 29% say leave immediately, 22% within 6 months, 21% by years end)

  5. I support pulling out of Iraq as well, but that doesn’t mean I am going to go out and protest. The troops feel like we are protesting their service. I have talked to multiple service people who say that they felt like the protests were directed at them. You can argue what ever you want about when we should come home and how much the troops want to come home. You should not, however, be participating in protests that make the troops feel unappreciated and unwanted. Especially if you are running for a political position. I had really hoped we learned our lesson from Vietnam. We need to honor our troops. They have no choice in the matter.

  6. If they feel like the protests were directed at them, they are wrong. They probably only think that because people who stand to gain politically from them thinking that (ie Bush, Republican politicians, officer types who are partisan Republicans, Fox News), lie and tell them that. So, IF it has hurt the troops, the fault is SOLELY with those who use the protests for political gain, by lying to the troops about the nature of the protests. They should be ashamed of themselves.

  7. “Smart Democrat” your conservatism is showing. And um, the conservatives aren’t going to vote for either Bilbray or Busby if it comes down to the anti-gay vote. Bilbray sits on the Board of Directors for the Log Cabin Republicans. So, its not like either of the candidates are the flag bearers for the Republican right.

That said, I am concerned that you want a Democrat who’s in favor of the war in Iraq and is anti-gay. When Democrats walk away from their values, Democrats look weak and end up losing. That’s why we lost in 2000, 2002, and 2004. That’s why Bush, who lies out of both sides of his mouth, looked more honest than Kerry. No more DINO’s, at least not in this election.

  8. Jim, are you just plain stupid? Or do you not think when you type.

“I support pulling out of Iraq as well, but that doesn’t mean I am going to go out and protest”

I suppose the above statement is what you are refering to when you say I support the war in Iraq. Wrong- I support my troops who have no choice in what they do and so should not be penalized for fighting in a war regardless of whether we agree with said war or not.

“Not to mention, she is backed by most of the Gay and Lesbian Rights groups in the country. The conservative, Christian residents of the 50th are not going to be pleased that she is taking money from groups that THEY see as immoral.”

Is this where you get that I am anti-gay? Are you really so blind? You should re-read the last part of the last sentence. Mainly the part where it says THEY.

As for your reasoning as to why the Democrats keep losing. Its called lack of stratagy. The Democrats are too busy pointing fingers and stroking their own holier-than-thou egos to think about what it really takes to win. We constantly hear them say “you did this wrong” and “you can’t do that,” but where are their solutions. It doesn’t do any good to nay-say something if you don’t have an alternative solution.

Your Democrat, Francine Busby, is just another example of the finger pointers already in congress. They can’t think on their own and come up with compromises that will benefit the country as a whole.

MY DEMOCRAT, Chris Young, is a solution finder. Young understands strategy. Young understands that cooperation and compromise are useful when they are for the good of the nation. Most importantly, Young understands that it is important to be a Patriot before being a Democrat.

Oh, and by the way, I speak for myself. If you want to know how Young feels on a topic, go to her website. Or even better yet, ask her! I am sure she would be happy to enlighten you.

  9. Oh, okay. I’m totally going to vote for Chris Young now. . .

Before you call me stupid and blind, please make sure to have proper spelling in your posts. Because it is never a good strategy to write stratagy when attacking someone for stupidity. And be sure to look up the Log Cabin Republicans so that you can understand my point — namely that gay issues won’t be raised in this campaign.

Quick question on this topic to those who know: Did Bilbray ever get the endorsement of the San Diego Democratic Club? Probably not as a Congressman, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did during his days as a Supervisor.

  10. These comments have been invaluable to me as is this whole site. I thank you for your comment.
