What Next for Roach?
So Eric Roach decided not to run in June despite putting out a lot of feelers that suggested he would run.
There are a lot of interesting aspects to the Bilbray-Roach potential matchup that never played out. Like, why was Bill Hauf paying for polls to encourage Roach to run?
The producer of the Roger Hedgecock show says Roach is toast. He also takes shots at Howard Kaloogian and Bill Morrow.
So what’s next for Roach? And will Bilbray ever manage to get the leading conservative candidates to be a bit more excited about him?
Hedgecock’s producer takes the shots at Bilbray’s Republican counterparts. The question is, has there in recent San Diego political history been such a prominent Republican nominee who faced such unwilling support from other prominent Republicans?
Hauf. Roach. Kaloogian. Morrow.
If Bilbray can’t get these people of his own party to at least "fake" support for Bilbray, then how will Brian Bilbray get a majority of voters to back him?

Of the three of them (yes three, Hauf doens’t count, sorry) I am most disappointed in Morrow. Roach is a big cry-baby, and Kaloogian is an egomaniac. But I would have expected a stand-up guy like Morrow to be a man and do what’s best for the party. Sort of disappointing.

“Stand-up guy”? He sued Carlsbad! Now he’s claiming that immigrants are coming over the border explicitly to take California (AZ, NM) back for Mexico (he asked the State Atty to investigate according to yesterday’s Daily Local News, available at the Coaster station). He’s claiming that students and teachers violated federal law by supporting/participating in the demonstrations.
I used to have respect for the guy - at least he has someone respond to letters, unlike Wyland, my other Sacto rep.

Is Roach on the ballot?

Drained: All the Republicans are on the primary ballot. If you think about it, they had to be. The signup period for the June primary closed before 4/11. It would be dumb to run on 4/11 but not sign up to keep the seat in case you won. You can get the candidate list (pdf) at the registrar’s web page: http://www.sdcounty.ca.gov/voters/Eng/election/0606candlist.pdf

Narched - Senator Morrow put himself out there do do something courageous - something most of our other elected officials are afraid to do. He asked the tough questions of the Attorney General that many of us were thinking. I read the Morrow letter and he was simply asking the AG if he would be willing to prosecute if there was evidence of seditious activity by some of the protesters. I’ve seen some of those protesters calling for “Aztlan” and a “Reconquista” and I know I’m not alone in feeling outraged. Thank God we have people like Senator Morrow speaking for us.
I hope Senator Morrow remains in the political realm in the future. We need more stand up, honorable and courageous leaders like him.
