Hauf Joins the 50th CD acmpaign

Filed under: Uncategorized - Administrator @ 11:27 pm

The 50th district never seems to have a reliable candidate field.  You just never know who is in and who is out.  Now we have another candidate in, Republican Bill Hauf.

Does Hauf hurt Bilbray (help Busby) by undermining support for Bilbray, the Republican choice?

Or does Hauf bring out more Republicans to the polls, as he claimed he would do in his comments to the press?

Read the story here.

  1. One thing he does is trigger the “Millionaire’s Amendment” campaign finance rule, which means Bilbray can raise about $6000 per donor (rather than the roughly $2000 per donor normally allowed). Since Hauf’s running only in the Republican primary, I don’t think Busby gets a similar break.

  2. I think this is good for the Republicans. Bilbray is hated in NC and having Hauf on board will bring more voters out. Hauf is Bilbray’s only shot at winning. Bilbray should be celebrating Hauf might help him out. Otherwise, Busby was going to clean the floor with him. Hopefully, Hauf cleans the floor with him, instead of Busby.

  3. The 50th congressional race has completed a circle of self destruction.

We escaped the den of the cyclops;only to find that like sheep we blindly have stumbled back into his cooking pot.

Was’nt the purpose in the founding the Conservative Republican Assembly [ CRA ] to fill a void caused by the consulting industry and the power if single issue advocacy???

The first having no vested interest [no profits ] in the developement of effective field operations???
And the profits of the other tied to never solving or compromising
on a NATIONAL issue that ALONE could determine who held power in America.

At the time The party seemed incapable of keeping single issue advocacy and the related infighting[bitch slap slap fights ] from tearing the party apart.
It was ineffectual in the performance of its “prime directives”–

    -Register republican voters
    -get them out to vote”.

Getting them out to vote Republican, was best achieved by a”real”grass roots organization.[ not a “virtual one”]
The right person in every precinct can always overcome millions of dollars worth of the the slickest most deceptive tools of personal destruction.

Ronald Reagans 11th commandment was not a foot note to his conservative thought –nor that of the CRA,
    it was the foundation.

It’s abandonment by the CRA-the GOP-and the gaggle of candidates has clearly shown why.

Nothing Brian Bilbray has done would have change Ronald Reagans endorsement of his core values.

Above all else Brian has shown an abiding belief,”That American’s can overcome any threat and accomplish any good –As long as government stays out of our way”
However,Based on this campaign we can now add some the self-serving and self appointed judges of “REAL”conservativizm” —
What would Reagan call the CRA,NRA,and all those other “501-thee for me” single issue advocacy groups who only smell blood and increased donations to thier coffers.??

-Ronald Reagan said it best,-”no litmeus test will ever show whats in a mans heart but it surely shows what is in the hearts of those who give it.”

    let’s roll

  5. Can Brian turn the increased donation limit into ads for the runoff, rather than the primary? Is Hauf going to go with, “Vote Bilbray in the Runoff, Hauf in the Primary” ads? Will increased turnout bother to vote in the runoff portion? Will Brian maintain Cheney’s endorsement (et al)?

    Comment by Narched — May 16, 2006 @ 7:45 pm

  6. Will Brian retain Cheney’s endorsement???? Is that a seroius question? Nobody and I mean NOBODY in the Rep. party takes Hauf seriously…except for Hauf, and the loonies over at the Flash Report.

  7. ,,,and the profiteers who have stroked Hauf’s ego while gripping his wallet. In listening to Hauf yesterday, it appears his strategy boils down to telling us to vote FOR Bilbray, before we vote AGAINST him!

  8. He should hire Survey USA to do his polling. They are the best.

  9. That’s true! They overrated Busby and Roach in their pre 4/11 poll…maybe Hauf can pay them to overrate him!

  10. Maybe, but they did provide the most accurate polling.

  12. Enough about Reagan’s 11th commandment. Bilbray invoked it when he was leading, then smeared Roach when he was behind. Even Reagan sharply criticized Ford in the 1976 primary. It seems the 11th commandment is only an innoculator for the leader, and broken by everyone who wants to be in the lead.

  13. At least maybe Hauf actually LIVES IN THE DISTRICT!

  14. Brian has a tough road to walk…due to factors beyond his control.

    1) Follow a disgraced Congressman (R)
    2) The Adminstrations rudderless direction, sagging popularity and abandonment of the GOP base
    3) Congress, especially the Senate, rowing in the same boat as the mi casa su casa Democrats on immigration and the border
    4) Gas Prices and lack of any corp. oversight
    5) The continuing Great/not news from Iraq
    6) Budget crisis (he has a record here that is good)

That is an upstream course, but if he can communicate an independent message that speaks to the voters on these issues…he’ll prevail. He came to office (the first time) as a Reagan republican. Not a blueblood Republican.
As he said on Rick Roberts show (pre-election) sometimes friends have to save other Republicans from doing the wrong thing.
